Scope
Bridge conversion & bus gate
An existing bridge. A new connection.
Conversion of a bridleway bridge to carry bus traffic, with new traffic signals and road restraint systems on the bridge approaches.
My contribution
I designed and project managed the highway scheme, coordinating with Network Rail and Highways England, now National Highways. Structural engineers assessed the parapets and the bridge’s suitability for the changed loading.
Design & delivery considerations
The road restraint design considered the risk of vehicles entering the railway from the bridge approaches. The change of use required close coordination between the highway and structural disciplines.
